CWa Announces New Associate Principal!

Clive Wilkinson Architects is delighted to officially announce the appointment of a new Associate Principal, Bertram Beissel von Gymnich, to our practice!

Bertram, formerly the North America-based partner in the global architectural firm Ateliers Jean Nouvel, joins us following nearly 30 years of extensive international experience in high profile projects across Europe, Australia and the U.S. His award-winning work covers a broad range of scales, programs and typologies from performing arts centers and museums to residential towers.

To broaden the firm’s client offering, Bertram will be spearheading our diversification into ground-up building design and construction. After graduating from renowned architectural school ETH Zurich, Bertram’s professional experience includes periods with Rem Koolhaas and OMA in Rotterdam, Architecture-Studio in Paris, followed by 20 years as a partner with the Pritzker Prize-winning firm, Ateliers Jean Nouvel. Managing major building projects in Europe, Australia and the U.S. allowed Bertram to develop a deep insight into the makings of complex, high-quality architecture and the challenges of creating a unique response to context and stakeholders with each project. Bertram holds his architectural registrations in France, Switzerland and Australia.

In 2007, Bertram led the winning competition entry for the MoMA Tower (53W53) in New York. The New York Times critic Nicolai Ouroussoff hailed this project as “the most exhilarating addition to the skyline in a generation”. He also headed the design and construction of the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis, Minnesota, which was featured in the 2008 Pritzker Prize jury citation. Under Bertram’s direction, One Central Park in Sydney, Australia, won the CTBUH Award for the Best Tall Building Worldwide in 2014.

Bertram’s role shall be to assume principal responsibility in overseeing design conception and development for our portfolio of projects, including project strategy and client relations. We are truly excited about how his depth of design expertise and experience will reinforce the firm’s capabilities and help realize our holistic vision in undertaking more architectural building challenges, in addition to our established interior architecture practice.
